Stewart selected in first round of Young Guns Vanguard program

Chris Stewart among six top-tier Republicans enrolled in program for candidates in open GOP-leaning seats

WASHINTON, DC – Second Congressional District Republican nominee Chris Stewart responded today to the announcement that he and five other GOP candidates had been inducted by the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) to Young Guns Vanguard program.

Stewart stated, “It is a tremendous honor to be selected among the other five top-tier Republicans to this program and to be known as a Vanguard Young Gun. I feel grateful for the NRCC’s mentor-ship from the early stages of my campaign, and look forward to strengthening our relationship as we head into the November election.” Stewart continued, “We are working as hard as we can to win this thing, and keep Nancy Pelosi out of the Speaker’s chair.”

The Young Guns Vanguard program was created in 2009-2010 election cycle to distinguish the top-tier Young Guns candidates. Candidates for Vanguard status must establish a fully-staffed and disciplined campaign and demonstrate fundraising ability. The NRCC kicks off this relationship with Vanguards by giving their full support and additional resources to carry them to victory in November.

The Vanguard program is an extension of the NRCC’s Young Guns Program, which was originally founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy(R-CA), and Paul Ryan (R-WI) as a member driven organization, the Young Guns program has become an official NRCC effort dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide.

Dan Jones poll shows newcomer Chris Stewart 13 points ahead

Dan Jones poll shows my campaign 13 points ahead of closest challenger.

I’m humbled by the swarm of support that has been shown to my campaign in the last week, and I’m excited to announce that a recent Dan Jones poll shows my campaign 13 points ahead with 24% of those polled still undecided.

In the 2nd Congressional District race, author Chris Stewart is the leader, backed by 34 percent of the delegates surveyed. The next-highest response from delegates was that they were undecided, followed by former Utah House Speaker Dave Clark, with 21 percent.

via Deseret News

– In the open, GOP-dominated Second District, both parties are likely to proceed to primary elections. Republican delegates prefer former Air Force pilot Chris Stewart and former state House Speaker David Clark. The slight leader in Salt Lake Tribune poll released Tuesday, 2010 Senate candidate Cherilyn Eagar, is in fourth place among GOP convention delegates and faces an uphill road to the top-two primary.

Fundraising and Salt Lake County Straw Poll results

I’m pleased to announce that my campaign has surpassed 398 individual donations, and I’m humbled to have the support of so many hardworking Utahns and to have such a broad base of support from small donors and grassroots support.

I wanted to take a second and let everyone know that my campaign is being careful and frugal with these donations, and this is exactly how I intend to govern as a Congressman if I am elected.

Also, here is a link to the straw poll that was conducted last Friday night at the Salt Lake County Republican Party convention dinner. I’m proud to announce that my campaign won the poll with 33% of the vote.

Press Release – Stewart campaign continues to build momentum

Press Release – Stewart campaign continues to build momentum

Chris Stewart continues to build momentum leading up to the April 21st convention, Some groups resort to dirty tactics

Farmington, UT, April 10, 2012 — With only ten days remaining until the Utah Republican Convention, Chris Stewart continues to lead all candidates in polls of State Delegates for the second congressional seat. Stewart’s lead and mounting momentum have made him a target for some of the trailing campaigns.

Campaign Manager Brian Steed stated, “Given Chris Stewart’s strong standing with the delegates, we had heard some of the other campaigns were going to go negative, but thought and hoped they would be above this kind of Washington-style politics.” Steed concluded, “As the front runner, Chris has come to appreciate something he learned as an Air Force pilot – when you are in the lead, you have a big target on your back, but we won’t be distracted in our principle-driven campaign. It is clear that opponents have been surprised by the enormous strength and momentum of Chris’s message, organization and steady strategy — leading a few of the campaigns to lash out.”

Chris Stewart challenged his opponent’s campaigns as well as his own supporters to stay focused on the critical issues facing our nation and avoid the old-school politics of personal attacks. Stewart went on to say, “Delegates are too focused, too well informed and simply will not be swayed by lies, innuendo, distortions and negative attacks. My campaign will continue to press forward with our positive message of the implementing the measures that are necessary to get the country back on track as we meet with delegates one-on-one around the State of Utah.”

Shondell Knowlton, Stewart’s Chief of Staff, commented, “The more people listen to Chris Stewart, the more they like him and the more they love his message and vision for the future of Utah and our country We are choosing to stay focused on connecting with each delegate across the State.”

Happy Easter

Happy Easter

Nearly 2000 years ago something unprecedented occurred in a quiet garden just outside the bustling city of Jerusalem. Jesus Christ, slain by his enemies on Friday, rose from the dead and appeared to his close associates on a clear Sunday morning.

On this Easter weekend, Evie and I join with Christians everywhere to celebrate this holy event. May all our families rejoice at the phrase that gives hope to the hopeless, peace to the sorrowing, a promise of togetherness with those who have passed beyond this life. These words gladden the hearts of all who believe: He is not here, for He is risen!

Happy Easter,

Chris

The most critical decision in a generation: The U.S. Supreme Court and Obamacare

The U.S. Supreme Court decision on Obamacare

The Most Critical ruling in a generation

In the entire history of the United States, rarely has the fundamental difference between liberals and conservatives been so clearly evident as is demonstrated by the arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court over the constitutionality of Obamacare. They are literally deciding what they see as the very purpose of our government as outlined by the Constitution.

When our Constitution was written by our Founding Fathers, there were those who would not accept it until a Bill of Rights was placed as an addendum. The core basis of that Bill of Rights is to further identify the limits of government. And to our credit, we as Americans are vocal about the rights guaranteed to us by that document. Conservatives see it as the basis of our freedoms and a continuation of the same freedoms penned in the Declaration of Independence —freedom from the tyranny and oppression of government entities in our homes, in our religions and in our families.

However— the liberal faction of our nation sees things differently. President Obama and his administration see their role as implementing what the government can do for you, a role diametrically opposed to that same documentMore programs, more services, more helping hands—that’s how it begins. It is a thin disguise, accompanied by more regulation, more rules, more taxing and more intrusions into our daily decision-making. It becomes only a short leap from what the government can do for you to what the government can do to you.

The near proximity of these frightening dangers has never appeared closer than in the court arguments over Obamacare.

The Supreme Court of the United States holds in its grasp this very question today. It is my fervent prayer that they will uphold the Constitution – that they will see that the original intent of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and of government itself is to allow for individual freedoms, not to provide a framework for mandates and coercion.

If for some reason they do not come to what seems the obvious conclusion, that Obamacare is unconstitutional, I will work tooth-and-nail when elected to repeal it so that the American people and American businesses can have the freedom to make their own decisions without the onerous burden of government intrusion.
